Outlook ExpressIn this tutorial I would like to show how to set up mail accounts in Outlook Express.
Many of my friends get used to manage their emails using website interfaces. When I asked them 'why?' the most common answer was 'because I am able to access them from anywhere'. 'Well, yes but why do you login to all your accounts via websites from your own PC?', 'because I do not want to download them into my computer, I want them to be kept on server.'

In this tutorial I will explain how to set up Outlook Express for downloading emails from all your mail accounts and keep them on server at the same time.

Not many people know that using POP3 and IMAP protocols for incoming emails you can set up email client to download only a copy of your emails and keep originals on server. You can comfortable keep copies from all your mailboxes in one place on your own PC while still have an access to them from anywhere via websites.

How to set up mail account in Outlook Express?

1. Launch your Outlook Express and go through the wizard or click Accounts from menu Tools:

2. Next switch to tab Mail and click Add>Mail:

3. Type in your name and click Next.

6. Than input your login and password. If your Internet Service Provider (ISP) requires Secure Password Authentication (SPA) tick the right field and click Next:

 Input your login and password

And your default email account has been created. Now we have to set it up so it will work just like we want it to work. Go to menu Tools>Accounts again (see Pic. 01), switch to tab Mail  if necessary and this time highlight your new account and click on Properties button.

If necessary switch on outgoing mails authentication

If your ISP requires outgoing email authentication it is the best moment to switch it 'on'. Go to tab Servers and tick My server requires authentication, then click Settings and choose the right logon information. Usually it is the same login and password as to your incoming mail server, however if it differs, tick second option and input your outgoing mail details. Confirm settings by clicking OK and switch to tab Advanced.

 Leave copy on server

In this tab you are able to set up little bit more settings but in terms of this tutorial just tick Leave a copy of messages on server on the bottom and apply settings.

In this simple way you can set up your Outlook Express on your PC and manage all your emails from all mailboxes without deleting them from servers. You can also learn how to use message rules for email filtering and basic SPAM filtering from my other tutorials.
